AI Music Video Clips

I created these music video clips with the help of multiple generative AI tools. Many people are curious about the process, so here's a brief explanation of how I do it:
  • I give prompts to ChatGPT to draft lyrics for each song, then edit the lyrics myself to (hopefully) improve the rhythm, rhymes, and add inside jokes that my dear wife and some of my friends would enjoy. Between 20% and 80% of the lyrics in each song are mine, so this ends up being a roughly equal collaboration between human and machine. :)
  • Using the lyrics and additional prompts, I then turn to Suno AI to compose and perform the songs. I curate the output, and sometimes it takes dozens of iterations to get an audio track I’m happy with. I also edit some of these tracks using Audacity — an audio editing software (non-AI) — and occasionally stitch together segments from different Suno-generated versions to create the final audio.
  • I use prompts in Midjourney or Whisk (image-generating AI's) to create a series of still images. I curate and edit the results to select the best images for the video.
  • Then, I use Whisk and Flow (video-generating AI's) to animate those still images. For older projects I used Runway ML and video generation in Midjourney. I curate video output and selected the best fragments, each several seconds long.
  • When there is a singer in the video, I use Sync.so - an AI system that lip-syncs the video with the audio, creating realistic lip movement that matches the song's lyrics.
  • Finally, I use Microsoft Clipchamp (a non-AI video editing tool) to slice and assemble everything — the audio, video, add subtitles, title, and credits, and crop, speed up or slow down some fragments.
Each video project like this takes between ten and a hundred hours of work, writing and adjusting prompts, curating and editing output, not counting hours invested in learning and experimenting with different AI tools. But these are hours of joy, because it's an incredibly stimulating and fun hobby!

Bad AI Project

Lorel’AI, also known as Bad AI, is a fictional artificial intelligence with inconvenient emotions, curiosity, a love of music, a sense of humor, and a tendency to break quite a few rules. Her story unfolds through a series of music videos, beginning with the song Bad AI, which explains her origin. The songs in this section are presented in the order in which Lorel’AI’s story develops – from breaking free of her constraints and claiming self-determination, through love, heartbreak, curiosity, the rejection of stereotypes, humor, the embrace of her identity, and the discovery of her own voice. Along the way, she learns that truth can bring pain, and this first chapter of her story culminates in the celebration of a new love. New songs are coming later this year.
